Martin Hardwick MICT MCS MCMI BBA (Executive Director)


Martin is an accomplished director with over 30 years' experience of working within both industry and trade associations, holding senior positions within major construction materials companies such as Hanson, AI and the Mineral Products Association, covering director, company secretary, general management, sales, procurement, operational and technical management roles. He has also worked with leading specialist concrete contractors in the UK and Europe.

 

Major business system projects and/or senior consultancy roles/activities are undertaken directly by Martin. As an example, he has recently provided consultancy services as General Secretary to EPIC (the Engineered Panels in Construction trade association) and acted as a consultant to the multi-billion dollar World Cup 2022 infrastructure project in Qatar, whilst also working with leading Cement, Concrete, Aggregates & Asphalt producers in the UK.

 

He is a Member of the Institute of Concrete Technology, Member of the Concrete Society and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute. He also holds six sigma black belt certification, RoSPA H&S certification and is a registered BSI Associate Consultant accredited for BS EN ISO 9001 (Quality), BS EN ISO 14001 (Environmental), BS ISO 45001 (H&S), BES 6001 & BS 8902 (Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing) consultancy, as well as concrete and aggregate specific standards such as, but not limited to, EN 206, BS 8500-1&2, EN 773-1, EN 12620, EN 13242, EN 13139, EN 13043 and many more.

 

Martin undertook a series of consultancy roles for a tele-communications businesses operating in Norway and Africa, before joining SpeCC Ltd (Specialist Concrete Contractor Contractor certification body) as Director/Company Secretary/Scheme Manager in 2003. As well as managing the business as a whole, setting certification criteria and dealing with compliance issues and auditing, his combined role was primarily focused upon developing the business from what was a concept at the time, to the highly respected and recognised body it is today. During his 5 years with SpeCC the business grew by 800%, achieved by a targeted marketing approach to both the client and the supply chain as a whole.

 

Via the above role, Martin offered a service to clients (including government departments such as DBERR, the Highways Agency, local authorities and regional development agencies) seeking to appoint reputable supply chain partners (contractors), by auditing them against a series of specific requirements including quality systems to BS EN ISO 9001, health & safety to OHSAS 18001 (now BS ISO 45001), environmental to BS EN ISO 14001, financial gearing and liquidity ratios, training, sustainability and corporate governance.

 

Martin most recently held the position of Product Director for the Mineral Products Association, representing the interests of the Ready-mixed concrete supply industry within the UK and Europe, before setting his own business up in 2010.

 

During his employment he led the UK concrete industry in terms of the development of a sustainability and responsible sourcing strategy, developing British Standards, guidance documents, performance indicators and reporting protocols, leading to the widespread implementation of BRE BES 6001 and BS 8902 (responsible sourcing standards) within the construction industry.

 

Martin is also a member of BSI & CEN Standards committees for aggregate and concrete products.
